NIPA Movie Night - Stonewall Uprising

This month we will be watching Stonewall Uprising (2010) Unrated Documentary

In 1969, homosexuality was illegal in almost every state. But that was about to change. On June 28, 1969, New York City police raided a Greenwich Village gay bar, the Stonewall Inn, setting off a six-day riot that launched the modern American gay rights movement.

The film features interviews with 15 participants and eyewitnesses to the riots, including many who were active in the uprising and later went on to form gay liberation groups, as well as law enforcement who participated in the raids.

The film was produced and directed by the documentary makers Kate Davis and David Heilbroner, and is based on the book by the historian David Carter, Stonewall: The Riots That Sparked the Gay Revolution.
