North Idaho Pride Alliance Volunteer Spotlight: Ralph Shay

How would someone describe you?

Passionate about many things. Tenacious in the same vein. I am an activist. I am a father, brother to five siblings, a son, and a grandson. Fly fisherman and a Fly Rod builder. I love babies and children of all ages.

What do you do when you aren't volunteering?

I build flyrods or fish with a flyrod. I have not fished with another fishing implement in 20 years.

How you first got involved with North Idaho Pride Alliance?

I met Juli Stratton at the vigil organized to support the victims and survivors of the nightclub shooting in Orlando. I joined them for their 4th Annual Pride in the Park. I have participated in two Pride in the Parks and looking forward to the third.

What's it like to be a volunteer for North Idaho Pride Alliance?

It’s working with intelligent, compassionate, kind activists who are dedicated to the support of human beings who are not always supported within the community but or no less deserving of our recognition and support.

What do you wish other people knew about North Idaho Pride Alliance?

That we are accepting of everybody. One does not have to be LGBTQ to be a participant or activist of our group. I am an activist and an ally.

What would you tell someone who is thinking about volunteering for us?

Step in. You are welcome. ❤
